We seek an experienced and talented event planner extraordinaire and generalist for our Director of Meetings position. Our team culture is collaborative, member-focused, and solutions-oriented while still making time for team connection and celebrating our wins.
The director plays an integral part in managing production from event concept through completion – planning, logistics, and production – ensuring well-executed events and meeting our standards to continuously improving our national portfolio of live meetings and virtual events. In addition, APRO convenes meetings throughout the year to facilitate the leadership activities of our Board, state chapters, committees, and other stakeholders.

This role demands an expert knowledgeable in all aspects of event, meeting, and conference planning, including cost containment, venue scouting, equipment logistics, room setup, and best practices. This person must also have excellent leadership skills and an ability to delegate responsibilities to meet expectations for quality. The best candidate for our company is an event planner who can manage the daily details and deadlines and use big-picture thinking to ensure genuinely unique attendee experiences.
Objectives of this role
Manage all aspects of event planning, meet strict deadlines, and stay within budget
Nurture and build relationships with vendors, venues, and other stakeholders while crafting and implementing the creative and logistical aspects of all events
Remain current (or ahead of the curve) with trends in event planning, design, and production, and proactively identify and solve operational challenges
Establish procedures and collaborate with staff to execute them
Comply with legal, insurance, health, and safety regulations always
Candidates must have a bachelor's degree. Preference is given to candidates with CMP credentials and 5+ years of direct experience in event planning and/or association management. Successful candidates should possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills, budgeting skills with demonstrated success in meeting budget goals, and a commitment to using data to make strategic recommendations for the organization.
Experience with Association Management Systems (AMS) or Customer Relationship Management systems (CRM) and intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) is preferred. Experience using MailChimp, Constant Contact, or similar email marketing solutions is a plus. Ability to travel (domestically) approximately 6-8 times a year for up to a week at a time (including weekends).
Candidates must be comfortable with quickly changing priorities, virtual work environments, and ambiguity. Finally, experience with building successful relationships with staff colleagues in a fast-paced, remote work, and collaborative environment is critical.
