Role and Purpose:
To work independently under the supervision of the Executive Director, maintaining a positive attitude while performing various tasks in order to maintain and deliver a variety of communications tools to membership and provide an orderly and efficient atmosphere in the state office of the Texas School Public Relations Association.
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in liberal arts, journalism, public relations, communications or new media. Association experience or school communications experience preferred, but not required.
Special Knowledge and Skills:
Effective communication skills, written and oral; excellent organization and time management skills; extensive knowledge of computer programs (Mac platform) and key social media sites; working knowledge of website development, Adobe Creative Cloud and AP-style composition.

management; online research experience with ability to track and monitor posts and articles relevant to TSPRA; soft skill experience related to problem-solving, addressing member needs, taking initiative and collaborating with work teams.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Present a positive role model that supports the mission of TSPRA while demonstrating behavior that is professional, ethical and responsible.
Demonstrate sound judgment in disseminating information and maintaining confidentiality at all times.
Participate in professional growth opportunities and illustrate initiative to promote professional growth appropriate to job assignment.
Coordinate member communication and professional development through surveys, focus groups, webinars and resource development such as talking points and legislative updates.
Manage external communication through e-newsletters, e-blasts and social media outlets, including content development, monitoring communication and responding to users in a timely manner.
Coordinate annual conference planning, execution and post-conference duties including serving as liaison on conference program and mobile app development, determining conference site logistics, developing feedback tools, managing volunteers, participating in conference-related decisions, and providing assistance with online registration processes.
Design magazine ads, conference signage, marketing materials and other print documents.
Compose and distribute news releases related to awards and award recipients honored by the association and occasional short articles for education journals/publications.
Coordinate TSPRA’s social media strategy, including setting goals and tracking metrics.
Field member questions and requests in a timely manner.
Support association by ensuring positive, consistent messaging is maintained in the community and media.
Monitor news coverage of Texas public education and legislation discussions.
Stay current on new social media, mobile and other electronic communication tools to recommend their application as appropriate.
Compile, post, duplicate and archive the electronic board books in preparation for each executive committee meeting.
Oversee/maintain TSPRA’s website, including the homepage, calendar, newsroom, polls, annual conference sections, document vault, banner ads and designs and posting of newsletters, e-blasts and other communications.
Produce basic photography and videography media.
Assist with the planning, coordination, facilitation, oversight of volunteers and on-site logistical efforts of the TSPRA annual conference.
Format and blast mass member emails.
Oversee print projects.
Assist with the Star Awards competition and banquet.
Assist with the routine work activities of the state office.
Actively engage, cultivate and contribute to positive staff/member experiences by modeling flawless customer service techniques.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions. Repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer can be expected. Ability to communicate and follow instructions (verbal and written). Position will require periods of sitting at computer or standing at copier and some lifting of boxes. Walking from one workspace to another can be expected. Occasional use of vehicle to run errands and pick up supplies as necessary. Occasionally necessary to work after-hours to complete projects. Travel is expected when conferences are scheduled out of the Austin area and extended stay at conference hotel expected when conferences are held in Austin.
