ABPANC, a 501(c)(6) not for profit organization was incorporated in 1985. The national headquarters for ABPANC is located at 1133 Broadway, Suite 715 New York, NY 10010.
ABPANC offers two certification programs and credentials:
CPAN® which stands for Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse
CAPA® which stands for Certified Ambulatory Perianesthesia Nurse
Both credentials are federally registered certification marks. Additionally, both of the certification programs are nationally accredited by the Accreditation Board for Specialty Nursing Certification, Inc. (ABSNC).
As of August 9, 2023, there are 5,025 CPAN certified registered nurses and 6,767 CAPA certified registered nurses. 928 individuals hold both certification credentials.
Contract Services
ABPANC contracts with PSI Services, LLC for examination services related to the development, administration, and scoring of the CPAN and CAPA examinations.
ABPANC contracts with Extensis, to provide HR services, and CLA, to provide accounting services.
Governance
A twelve-member Board of Directors, comprised of 11 RNs and one Public Member, governs ABPANC. The ABPANC Bylaws allow for no less than nine and no more than 13 board members. The ABPANC Board of Directors elects all members.

Who You Are:
The Chief Executive Officer of ABPANC (American Board of Perianesthesia Nursing Certification, Inc.), a 501(c)(6) not for profit national organization that offers professional certification to perianesthesia nurses, (1) provides for the fulfillment of the ABPANC mission by demonstrating executive and administrative leadership; (2) recommends and implements organizational policy, procedures and programs; (3) implements and maintains effective office and contact management to assure attainment of organizational goals and services to key stakeholders; (4) ensures that ABPANC is strategically positioned to respond to a changing environment and key stakeholder needs; and (5) ensures that financial and other resources are available to meet ABPANC goals.
What You'll Do:
Within the limits of the Articles of Incorporation, Bylaws, and Policies of ABPANC, the Chief Executive Officer is responsible for:
Providing for efficient and effective day to day management activities, including:
establishing and maintaining, association records, files and databases, including assuring the confidentiality and security of such records
distribution of materials necessary for the timely and accurate management of ABPANC business and communication with key stakeholders;
directing preparation of records such as notices, minutes of meetings, resolutions and other official documentation for the Board of Directors;
answering all routine correspondence and draft correspondence for volunteer leaders as appropriate;
routinely evaluating and revising, as needed, office operations to ensure effectiveness and efficiency.
Assuring timely and accurate information to key stakeholder groups, including:
establishing and implementing customer service standards that meet, or exceed expectations of key stakeholder groups;
identifying and implementing plans for the timely, relevant and efficient dissemination of information to key stakeholder groups;
identifying and implementing regularly established forums for communication, including, but not limited to reporting to the Board of Directors at each board meeting;
coordinating updates to ABPANC website;
responding to all requests for information about ABPANC in a timely and accurate manner;
routinely reviewing and revising all informational materials as indicated;
coordinating all marketing and advertising efforts;
identifying and implementing recognition and award programs as approved by ABPANC;
establishing and maintaining effective communication links with the broader nursing and healthcare certification community, including ASPAN, as appropriate;
identifying and obtaining necessary resources for effective communication among office staff and volunteer lead
Assuring successful meeting and conference planning, including:
determining summer board meeting and other sites, i.e. Executive Committee meeting, in collaboration with the President-Elect for their Presidential year;
negotiating and contracting the most cost-effective hotel and other related rates for all meetings, within budget constraints;
developing meeting agendas in collaboration with the President;
coordinating the distribution of agendas and any related meeting materials to identified individuals;
providing an on-site contact for meetings to assure the availability of on-site meeting resources;
assisting the President and appropriate committees/work teams/task forces in planning and conducting meetings of the organization;
coordinating all ABPANC activities at the ASPAN national conference.
Providing for sound financial management of ABPANC by:
recommending and implementing policies and procedures related to financial activities;
assuring that a yearly budget is prepared, approved by the Board of Directors and administered according to policy and procedures;
assuring that monthly financial statements, and any other financial information as requested by the Board of Directors are prepared and distributed to designated individuals;
assuring that an annual tax return and audit, using the services of an independent audit firm approved by the Board of Directors, is conducted;
managing ABPANC’s fiscal resources appropriately;
Contracting for goods and services provided by external agencies in accordance with ABPANC Bylaws and policies
Ensuring the execution of the examination contract with PSI
Administering the nomination and selection process for volunteer leader positions according to policy and procedures
Coordinating the Recertification Program, including:
ensuring an efficient, timely and cost-effective renewal process;
administering the Review and Appeal program based upon ABPANC policy and procedures
Serving as an ex-officio member and advisor to the ABPANC Board of Directors
Serving as a member of the Executive Committee and Finance Committee
Assuring that all legal, fiduciary, regulatory and psychometric standards related to the activities of ABPANC are maintained at all times
Assuring a strategic planning process, including:
monitoring and communicating to the Board of Directors all national association, certification, credentialing and titling issues, activities and trends that impact the mission of ABPANC;
implementing an action plan, as approved by the Board of Directors;
providing opportunities for strategic planning.
Recommending and implementing policies/procedures/programs to advance ABPANC’s mission.
Providing the tools and information needed by the Board of Directors to fulfill its fiduciary duty and board accountabilities, including leadership development
Representing ABPANC in a positive, informed, and professional manner
Facilitating the credible representation of ABPANC in partnership with its volunteer leaders to maintain ABPANC’s leadership role in the health care credentialing arena

What You Bring:
Professional Licensure & Certification
CAE certification from the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) required but if not currently CAE certified, will become CAE certified as soon as eligible
Education
Minimum of a Master’s degree required; in a health related field or other relevant field (i.e. MBA, Finance, Administration, Management, etc.)
Experience

Association management experience working with a 501(c)(6) non-profit certification association as CEO or Senior Management Staff
Knowledge of nonprofit association laws for a 501(c)(6) organization as compared to a 501(c)(3) organization
General knowledge of certification/credentialing
Financial management of a non-profit organization, including budgeting and forecasting, essential
Highly proficient in use of MS Word, Excel, PPT, Survey Monkey, Microsoft Outlook. Able to learn new software quickly.
TRAVEL - Ability to travel approximately 12% per year.

General knowledge of the ABSNC Accreditation Standards and accreditation process
Knowledge of issues related to certification from a global perspective
Nursing or healthcare certification and credentialing experience
