The Director of Membership is responsible for developing and implementing Association X’s membership recruitment/retention strategies. Using both proven and new strategies, the individual will plan, direct, coordinate, and implement Association’s membership retention and recruitment activities and evaluate these strategies' effectiveness.
The Director must be familiar with association management systems and be able to use the available data to enhance recruitment and retention efforts. The Director will manage the department’s budget and work with staff to identify new benefits as well as non-dues revenue sources related to membership value. The individual will define and manage member services including quality of responses and turnaround time. The Director serves as the staff liaison to several volunteer leadership groups.
Implement member recruitment, new member orientation, and retention strategies
Develop an annual membership growth plan
Work with Marketing Department to write, design, and implement effective recruitment and retention strategies, develop direct communications with members and leaders, and manage print and online content.
Provide other membership-related content for website, social media posts, etc.
Provide regular membership reports for staff, committees, and the Board
Serve as staff lead to committees and task forces as they relate to membership
Develop and manage affinity and other programs with third-party vendors to maximize member benefits and revenue.
Conduct new member orientations and involvement both in-person and virtually
Oversee in full or in part membership administrative team.
Oversee any revenue or expense line items on the budget related to membership recruitment, retention, value, and engagement.
Complete MCI USA time tracking on a weekly basis using internal systems
Other duties as assigned
Serve on appropriate MCI USA Matrix Teams; and function as an MCI USA Team Member in accordance with MCI’s corporate vision and guiding principles
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Minimum of 5 years of association experience with membership focus
Proven track record in the ability to grow and retain membership
Possess strong project management skills
Be confident interacting with senior-level executives and volunteers
Proven sense of initiative and ownership
Excellent communication skills (written & oral)
Possess critical and analytical thinking skills
Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer/member service even in difficult situations
Demonstrated ability to succeed in the fast-paced work environment; ability to learn quickly and meet deadlines
Technical proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), general computing skills, and the Internet
Experience with or ability to quickly learn database functions.
Applicant must be extremely organized, diligent, able to multi-task and operate with only the highest degree of integrity
