The successful applicant will work to diversify the revenue stream of IEEE by raising major and principal gifts in excess of $1 million annually to support IEEE Foundation Board endorsed strategies and Signature Programs. Primary responsibilities will include the strategic development and execution of comprehensive and integrated fundraising plans and programs that grow major and principal gifts at a rate to achieve the annual and long-range goals of two to three assigned Signature Programs in addition to unrestricted support. Other IEEE programs may fall under the direction of this position, when such initiatives arise. This pro-active team member, who must be both opportunistic and strategic in his/her approach, will serve as the primary interface for the IEEE Development Office and the IEEE Foundation with the IEEE organizational unit executing the Signature Programs for which the funds are raised.
The role reports to the Chief Development Officer and functions as an individual contributor. It does not manage any direct reports but has influence over the work of others. The incumbent works independently and identifies solutions but works under consultative direction on overall business strategies and objectives. He/she is authorized to approve purchases and contracts up to US $10,000, negotiate gifts agreements with donors and IEEE Organizational Units, approve written content to raise funds, and recommend annual budgetary needs.
Leads the strategic design, execution and management of comprehensive fundraising plans and activities to grow major and principal gifts at a rate necessary to achieve annual and long-range goals and objectives of the assigned Signature Programs that compliments and integrates with the IEEE Foundation’s overall fundraising program.
Manages the continual identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of up to 200 qualified active major gift donors and prospects (corporations, foundations, and individuals)
Negotiates gift terms and preparing/executing gift proposals and agreements
Partners with Senior Annual Giving & Data Integrity Specialist to identify and qualify likely major gift prospects for assigned Signature Programs through personal cultivation and solicitation and sight-raising of support to the mid and major gift range of $10k-$25k.
Serves as the IEEE Foundation expert and speaking with authority on fundraising, as well as, programmatic aspects of the IEEE programs
(15%) IEEE Organizational Unit Relations and Volunteer Management
Manages the working relationship with the IEEE organizational units running the assigned Signature Programs and engages its staff and volunteer leadership to achieve the desired annual and long-term fundraising objectives. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Manages the accurate articulation and synchronization between the program(s) goals and fundraising strategy
Directs, schedules, and supports the activities of the IEEE organizational unit fundraising committee and other involved volunteers and professional staff. Specific duties include assigning staff and volunteers to identified prospects at events by preparing them with campaign marketing collateral, talking points, and conducting any necessary follow-up on behalf of volunteers with prospects in an effort to lead to closure of a gift
Provides advice and direction on the recruitment of program fundraising volunteers to meet campaign goals
Trains volunteers and staff on the most effective solicitation methods
(10%)Data Analysis & Reporting
Provides effective and efficient in-depth data analysis and reporting for the fundraising activities for the assigned Signature programs. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Participates in the preparation and presentation of comprehensive written reports and presentations to IEEE Organizational Unit and IEEE Foundation
Researches prospective donors
Analyzes data regarding donor giving behaviors by proactively identifying challenges and concerns, and recommending corrective actions in an effort to increase support from current donors, acquire new donors, and reactivate lapsed donors
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience
Minimum of at least 6-8 years professional fundraising and programmatic related experiences,
Minimum of 3-5 years of significant direct experience in negotiating and successful closure of gifts of five to six figure gifts
Certified Fundraising Executive desirable or the willingness to work towards appropriate certification
Skills & Other Requirements:
Knowledge of professional associations a plus
Strong understanding of not-for-profit program administration and major gift fundraising concepts
Must have demonstrated success in solicitation and securing of mid and major gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations
Must be a patient, effective communicator who is able to establish and maintain relationships and skillfully advocate on behalf of programs
Proven track record as a strategic thinker and leader
Ability to excel in fast-moving work environment among a diverse team, as well as, independently
Experience with working with a volunteer Boards and Committees strongly preferred
Ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously with changing priorities, meet deadlines and work cross-functionally to successfully guide them to a positive conclusion
Proven ability to influence individuals who are not immediate direct reports
Skilled at crafting and delivering persuasive presentations and written materials
Possess excellent verbal, written, organizational skills and strict attention to detail, be fluent in business English and capable of speaking effectively on the telephone and in person-to-person situations
Must demonstrate the highest degree of professionalism when dealing with sensitive and/or confidential matters
Positive, proactive work attitude
Must be a technologically savvy worker who seeks out solutions to business challenges
Must have excellent computer skills, including proficiencies in Google Programs, and Microsoft Office suite of products. Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge and Siebel, preferred
Must be able to work during weekends and/or evenings several times per year
Ability to travel up to 40% of year outside of local region
