Job Summary: Development Manager is responsible for prospect identification, proposal writing and reporting for both national and state-level funding relationships.
Nature and Scope of Position: This position reports directly to the Chief Development Officer.
Leads in the writing and editing of concepts, proposals and funder reports.
Identifies, cultivates, solicits and stewards relationships with current and prospective funders.
Tracks deadlines for new and existing grant opportunities and reporting requirements. Plans and executes processes to meet grantor requirements and needs, including working with colleagues to gather field information for grants.
Coordinates and facilitates grant procurement on the state and local levels by working with state-based colleagues, providing them with tools, templates and encouragement to facilitate success in securing state/local grants.
Serves as the back-up Development Department database administrator (Salesforce).
This position reports to the Chief Development Officer and is part of the development team.
The position supervises the following positions:
No direct reports.
Within AFHK, the position has primary relationships with the Chief Development Officer, the entire Development Department team, State Coordinators and field staff. Outside of AFHK, the position has relationships with current and prospective funders.
The individual is expected to be a results-oriented, self-starter who is proficient in concept, proposal and report writing and in identifying, building and managing new funding relationships. The individual is expected to:
Donor Acquisition and Management
Prepare letters of intent, proposals and reports for current and prospective funders, including foundations, corporations, government agencies, etc.
Maintain working knowledge of key programmatic areas in the organization and participate in cross-functional teams’ coordinated efforts to secure funding.
As directed, edit other Development Department written materials.
Manage local State Coordinator/State Team fundraising efforts, offering support when needed.
Take lead role in development of tools and resources to keep field staff apprised of funder requirements and accountabilities.
Serve as the Development Department’s secondary database administrator, a responsibility that includes the writing and generating of useful reports and assisting with staff training.
Ensure the accurate tracking of proposal/report deadlines in AFHK’s database for own accounts.
Carry secondary responsibility for gift entry and coding in the database as required by the Department.
