MCAAP is the employee organization/union within the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) that represents over 750 certificated and non-certificated administrators and supervisors.
The membership of MCAAP is comprised of two recognized collective bargaining units: the Montgomery County Association of Administrators and Principals (created in 1981 and formerly known as MCAASP) and the Montgomery County Business and Operations Administrators (MCBOA, created in 2008). The two units within MCAAP work together through a combined and representational leadership with a Board of Directors and chapter organization. In addition, MCAAP serves as a professional association for its members. The executive director works closely with this leadership and the membership of the organization.
MCPS is the largest school system in Maryland and is highly regarded for its outstanding educational programs and service within its growing diverse communities. MCAAP is an active partner with the school system and the two other employee organizations which represent the teachers and the support professionals. Important in this partnership is the focus on collaboration, communication and the value of the culture of respect in the workplace.
The organization continually works in part to:
Improve the educational process for students by helping members become more effective in their various roles as educational leaders.
Provide a single, coordinated voice for members to promote and preserve sound administrative practices.
Address the interest of members through political and legislative action, community outreach and education.
Initiate and encourage cooperative efforts with MCPS, professional organizations and others to promote and give leadership in matters of mutual concern.
Represent members on educational and professional concerns and to advance and protect the professional status and welfare of members.
Serve as the exclusive collective bargaining representative for all administrators and supervisors in MCPS.
Requirements: Evidence of administrative and leadership experience in working with and leading others to achieve group goals and objectives. Previous experience with and knowledge of negotiated agreement development and implementation, operating budget development and financial management, and the maintenance of membership processes and records is required.
Skills Viewed as Critical: Outstanding writing and editing skills; excellent oral communication skills; ability to manage several projects/activities; excellent interpersonal and leadership skills in working cooperatively with diverse populations; ability to use social media both strategically and responsibly; experience in office management; knowledge of association/union organization; proficiency with database management and other computer software programs such as Microsoft Office.
Additional Salary Information: Full-time salaried, with occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
