PURPOSE: Support the CFO and accounting staff in carrying out the financial reporting responsibilities of the Accounting Department. This would include maintaining the general ledger accounts and business transactions of the Texas Restaurant Association, applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) that includes analytical work and a thorough review of financial records. The Staff Accountant will ensure that all payables have been entered correctly and billed to the right account code and that payments are made on a timely basis.
Assist the CFO with the day-to-day and monthly operations of the Accounting Department
Ensure that all accounting transactions are in compliance with GAAP and all FASB regulations.
Perform and/or review in a timely manner necessary reconciliations for month-end closing.
Prepare general ledger entries for month-end closing.
Process functional and benefits expense allocations, monthly accruals, amortization of prepaid expenses, fixed asset depreciation, and recording of adjusting and reclassification journal entries, if necessary.
Prepare and analyze month-end budget to actual variance reports per program and department and review variances with CFO.
Manage the processing and recording of accounts payable transactions and ensure that all invoices and staff reimbursements are paid accurately.
Review and process corporate credit card charges ensuring that applicable receipts are submitted by cardholders on a monthly basis.
Provide accounting data to department heads, as needed.
Reconcile third party generated payroll tax returns to the general ledger.
Perform general account analysis and reconciliations, including bank statements, fixed assets, benefit billings, accruals, and prepaid expenses.
Provide assistance to accounting staff as needed.
Perform such other accounting, financial or administrative task as may be required by CFO.

Knowledge of Dynamics accounting software is a plus. Must have accounting system experience.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and especially EXCEL.

Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Background check performed on final candidate
Baccalaureate degree in accounting or related field (Associate degree with equivalent work experience will be accepted).
Minimum of three to five years of accounting experience required, preferably in a non-profit organization.
Comprehensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
Demonstrated success in a development function (managing and forging relationships with multiple donor sources).
Adept at working independently, thinking critically, and willing to offer quality ideas to improve accounting processes.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, and the ability to learn systems/technology used at TRA.
