Director manages member services staff and directs strategy for Membership Development, executing campaigns and outreach to meet ACF goals. Develops and implements marketing and sales efforts to retain and grow membership and increase awareness of the value the American Culinary Federation brings to all members, the general public and food industry. Supports chapter growth with grassroots recruiting materials and chapter operational guidance and information.
Interrelationships: ACF Staff, ACF Board of Directors, American Culinary Federation Education Foundation Board of Trustees and Chapter Presidents
Essential Job Duties:
Develops short and long term strategies to increase membership growth and retention
Researches leads and initiates sales cycle to introduce ACF membership value to major culinary employers, increasing membership by closing new group enrollments
Develop and execute marketing plans to communicate the value of membership and benefit of joining to culinary industry, targeting individual chefs, employers, educators and their students.
Negotiate strategic relationships with industry alliances
Initiates writing, editing and design work for website updates, brochures and direct mail for
marketing and retention efforts
Provides membership reports including statistics, campaign updates, analysis, retention and outreach plans and progress to Executive Director, Board of Directors, and chapters
Manages the daily operation of the Membership Development department, including hiring, training and supervising staff
Develops and manages Membership budget
Supports Executive Director in organizing regional forms and Board of Governors meetings
Represents ACF at trade shows, industry events, chapter meetings and ACF regional and national events
Collaborates with Certification, Accreditation, Events, IT, Communications, Finance, Education departments in strategic planning, problem-solving and cross-promotion
Recommend, develop and implement enhancements to member value proposition, including affinity programs

Skills: Proven experience initiating sales cycle, cultivating relationships, and closing corporate deals worth tens of thousands of dollars. Sees the "big picture" and innovates ideas for membership growth. Outbound telephone, Articulate speaker, Persuasive and consultative sales skills, Excellent writing skills, Innovation, Analysis, Planning and prioritizing, Problem-solving, Collaboration, Mathematics for analysis. Positive, empowering, and supportive team leader and mentor. Spanish language helpful.
Required technical skills: Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, CRM databases and sales opportunity management systems; 360° experience executing direct marketing campaigns; familiar with social media. Knowledge in IMiS, Constant Contact a plus.
Principal interactions: Members, Prospects/Corporate decision-makers, ACF staff
Experience requirements: 5 years’ experience including outbound sates with a track record of closing deals and P/L responsibility; minimum 3 years in senior level management role; relevant experience such as member recruitment, group sales, or corporate relations in a nonprofit or culinary setting is preferred. Experience with multi-channel marketing (social media, electronic/web, direct mail, telephone) from planning to execution.
Educational requirements: Minimum of a bachelor's degree, preferably in business, marketing or nonprofit management, is required.
Job Competence & Assessment standards: This position will be reviewed on membership marketing efforts as they relate to the budget for the organization. Successfully cultivates leads and closes new property group membership to generate new revenue. Develops and executes campaign plan to fill sales funnel, reports decision stages and closes, analyzes results for future action. Demonstrates competence in management of member services team including workflow, accurate messaging, and follow-through in organizing Board of Governors. Maintains positive and effective working relationships with current and prospective members, chapters, Board members, vendors, and ACF team. Values and characteristics are considered along with demonstrated skills and competency to meet strategic goals set by ACF for the individual and the department.
