Under the direct supervision of the Director of Government Relations, this position is responsible for the administrative support of the government relations function to include answering phone calls and relaying messages; assembling mailings; maintaining schedules; writing articles and conducting legislative and state research as required; drafting government relations social media content and updating social media platforms; providing conference support assistance; assisting in coordination of department events; providing ATSSA-PAC fundraising support; attending hearings on behalf of other government relations staff and representing the government relations department on internal committees as assigned.
Provides administrative and clerical support to the government relations department.
Answers department calls and routes calls and/or relays messages as appropriate; serves as first department representative.
Schedules internal and external department meetings.
Coordinates department mailings.
Drafts government relations social media communications for approval by director and MarCom; updates social media platforms as instructed; monitors social media platforms for department as instructed.
Conducts legislative and state research as requested, including tracking and analyzing state bills using a government relations management platform.
Coordinates ATSSA’s Annual Fly-In in conjunction with the Director of Government Relations and float administrative assistant; assists during event.
Assists with state fly-in/advocacy days on an as-needed basis, including meeting schedule follow-ups and communicating with state capitols and venues on logistics.
Attend and summarize webinars on behalf of the department.
Attend hearings in absence of director.
Draft articles for electronic and hard-copy publications.
Provide PAC fundraising support as directed including research and writing.
Responsible for other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience – A bachelor’s degree in political science, public administration or related field. At least two years of government relations experience; research experience; and experience working in office environment and using contemporary office and computer systems.
Skills and Knowledge – Foundational knowledge of legislative process; strong writing; editing, organizational, and project coordination skills; strong detail-orientation; a firm understanding of deadlines and the ability to meet them; at ease networking and communicating with various levels of an organization; comfortable working in Microsoft Office applications; the ability to multi-task and change priorities quickly; and the ability to think, plan, and execute resourcefully both independently and as part of a team.
