Purpose of Job:
The purpose of this position is to advance the reputation and awareness of TMPA as the voice of Texas law enforcement among current and prospective members, public officials and the public at large through use of communications while supporting the needs of the members and staff.
Communications / Marketing
Magazine: create bi-monthly In Service magazine by collecting and editing submitted articles, creating new feature articles and center spreads, communicating with existing and prospective advertisers, and working with vendors such as designer, advertisers and printers to mail the magazine to 24,500 stakeholders and other key decision makers in law enforcement.
E-Newsletter: prepare TMPA content for the weekly email newsletter, review content provided by the newsletter vendor and track analytics to determine the most popular content and select future features accordingly.
Social Media: post updates regularly to encourage follower interaction, monitor TMPA’s social media accounts to ensure professionalism and compliance with the association’s social media regulations, and suggest new ways to use social media to communicate with TMPA’s stakeholders. Stay current on Social media trends and make recommendations on updates to ensure maximum impact with social media strategy.
Mobile App: update the TMPA Mobile App with the latest information about the association, coordinate with mobile app vendor and make sure the app licenses are up-to-date
Print Collateral/Promo Materials: maintain, manage and update inventory of print collateral such as membership applications, brochures, and the pocket calendar as well as manage and order promotional product inventory.
Assist in creating and executing the Marketing/Communications Plan in line with the TMPA Strategic Plan.
Utilize graphic design skills to assist in executing and managing various marketing promotions including both electronic and print channels
Create and design marketing and promotional materials from concept through completion; edit and enhance existing materials ensuring quick turnaround
Work with cross-function personnel to develop graphic concepts and illustrations
Work with printing vendors to complete projects that need print-ready design files
Maintain the association’s graphics and photo library and purchase stock photos as needed
Responsible for assignments related to website maintenance, including updating existing and creating new webpages as needed and providing images and content. Track and evaluate analytics related to website traffic.
Maintain and continually update the TMPA Media Contact List
Distribute news releases and media alerts as directed in a timely manner
Monitor the media for mentions of TMPA and affiliated projects
Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as communications, marketing or public relations.
1-2 years of experience in a related field.
Experienced, capable and efficient writer and copywriter.
Ability to work independently with, minimal supervision, under tight deadlines and pressure.
Strong computer and Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Must be adept at Adobe Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop)
Working knowledge of HTML and CMS (Content Management System) or any software used for creating websites/digital content.
Working knowledge of RISE (website management).
Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
Great customer service/human relations skills.
Self-starter with strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Must be a team player who takes a collaborative, customer-service oriented approach.
Comfortable interacting with colleagues at all levels in the organization.
Personal integrity and ethical standards.
Be able to sit for an extended period of time (7+ hours).
Be able to look at computer screen for extended period of time.
Be available after hours to assist with social media updates.
Must be able to lift boxes weighing up to 25 pounds.
Ability to receive and give detailed information through oral communication.
Have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; expansive reading.
Some travel is required. To meet the travel requirements of this job, this job requires that employee have the physical and mental ability to drive a vehicle for long enough to reach any area in Texas with reasonably short breaks. It also requires that the employee have the physical and mental ability to fly as a passenger in an airplane to reach any area in Texas.
The Communications Specialist will be required to interact with professionals throughout various TMPA departments, some volunteer leaders (such as members of the Board of Directors), various vendors and the public.
