Job Summary: The Editorial Manager is primarily responsible for managing production workflows for the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (JAACAP) and JAACAP Connect. The Editorial Manager works under the direction of the Managing Editor, and in collaboration with the editors, other staff members, and publisher to advance AACAP’s scholarly publishing program and support the Journal’s commitment to publishing the best scientific and clinical research in the field, and providing quality editorial experiences to editors, reviewers, and authors.
This position is responsible for managing pre- and post-publication manuscript workflows, and the development and coordination of JAACAP special features, including, but not limited to, invited contributions, clinical guidance and lay summaries, podcasts, and press releases. The role requires technical and content editing and proofing, production schedule/calendar and workflow management, light graphic design, and participation in the Journal’s growing communication and social media efforts. In addition, this position serves as the production manager for JAACAP Connect.
Excellent organizational and analytical skills and attention to detail required. The individual must manage multiple ongoing projects at once, manage/oversee JAACAP Connect, and serve as primary contact for invited contributors. The position requires excellent editorial and communication skills and a strong project management foundation.
Independently manages a comprehensive array of pre- and post-publication editorial processes.
Serves as production manager for JAACAP Connect.
Ensures adherence to style guidelines across internal and external documentation and publications.
Manages production of creative projects, such as ads, emails, announcements, and other collateral.
Stays up-to-date on current publishing changes, trends, and best practices.
Participates in efforts to identify and implement adjustments to workflow to accommodate best practices and advancements.
Manages special projects and other duties as required helping to promote the department’s success.
Supports vendor relationships, including but not limited to the publisher.
Serves as staff liaison for AACAP committees (as assigned).
Responsible for member feedback including emails, phone calls, and onsite.
Other duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, or related field.
3 to 5 years’ experience working in editorial/publishing, preferably in science or medicine.
Ability to work independently or collaboratively to establish priorities and meet deadlines.
Ability to maintain a high level of productivity.
Excellent diplomacy, discretion, and customer service skills.
Self-driven and confident with high standards of quality.
Innovative, creative self-starter and critical thinker.
Superior editing, proofreading, and writing skills, with careful attention to detail.

Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Suite.
Experience with submission/peer review systems, such as Editorial Manager.
Familiarity with Adobe Suite, particularly Acrobat and Photoshop.
Familiarity with AMA style preferred.
Additional Salary Information: Starting salary will be externally competitive when compared to other similar manager level positions with not-for-profit associations with comparable budgets requiring 3 to 5 years of applicable experience.
