The American Political Science Association (APSA) seeks candidates for the position of Chief Financial Officer. Reporting to the Executive Director and serving as an integral member of the senior management team, the Chief Financial Officer will be responsible for the oversight and development of APSA’s financial management strategy, human resources, and participate in the ongoing strategic planning of the organization. The CFO will also be responsible for the supervision of the membership department and work closely with other members of the senior team on operational and strategic issues in the association.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS & RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee and lead annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with the Executive Director, senior management team, and working closely with the Director, Finance and Administration; review all financial plans and budgets; monitor progress and changes and keep senior leadership team abreast of the organization’s financial status.
Serve as the financial management liaison to the council and audit committee; effectively communicate and present critical financial matters at council and committee meetings.
Contribute to the development of APSA’s strategic goals and objectives as well as the overall management of the association.
Maintain appropriate system of financial policies, internal controls, accounting standards, and procedures.
Supervise all human resources policies and programs for APSA including organizational planning and development, on-boarding, training, development, compensation and benefits, performance evaluation, and recruiting.
Provide effective leadership and stewardship of Membership Department, programs and services.
Ensure association properties and work spaces are managed to their full potential to provide a safe and attractive environment for association employees, and to ensure the long-term sustainability of physical assets
APSA is seeking a high-energy team player with initiative, a strong work ethic, ability to easily collaborate with several association departments, and demonstrated capacity to work closely with the diverse APSA membership and stakeholders.
REQUIRED EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree required; MBA/CPA or related degree preferred
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Minimum 7-10 years of overall experience; ideally 6+ years of broad financial and operations management experience. Prior experience in academic associations preferred.
