The Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE)—a global membership organization whose mission is to advance education to transform lives and society—is recruiting for an experienced professional to serve as Senior Director for Member Engagement. Reporting to the Vice President for Volunteer and Member Engagement, the successful candidate work to advance CASE’s strategic goal of increasing member engagement and loyalty. This individual will develop strategies to enhance member engagement and will work across the organization to identify opportunities that encourage members to have a more personal CASE experience as well as strengthen a greater sense of community.
The senior director will identify, cultivate, nurture and steward existing and emerging affinity groups that wish to affiliate, either formally or informally, with CASE. In addition, the individual will develop and oversee implementation of member outreach activities to raise awareness of CASE, solicit input and feedback, and strengthen individual relationships with key senior professionals and volunteers.
The core functions of this position include but are not limited to the following:
Develop and implement an organization-wide member engagement strategy to encourage increased affiliation and a greater sense of community; work collaboratively with global CASE colleagues to identify, implement, refine and evaluate opportunities.
Identify, establish and manage interest-based or institution-specific communities of practice to allow members to network and share information with colleagues facing similar challenges and opportunities; work with colleagues across the organization and external organizations to ensure effective and timely delivery of community projects and activities; manages community volunteer groups, including planning and delivery of meetings as well as the selection and onboarding of new committee members
Work alongside staff colleagues globally to establish and manage volunteer task forces and project teams that are developed in support of CASE’s strategic initiatives; provide advice on protocols, guidelines and structures for these groups.
Develop and oversee implementation of member outreach activities to raise awareness of CASE, solicit input and feedback, and strengthen individual relationships with key senior professionals; work with CASE senior staff to manage activities and steward targeted individuals.
Work with Membership Development and Communications and Marketing colleagues to measure and track member satisfaction, identify key areas for improved member service, and shape or enhance member products and services.
Fiscal Management/Budget Responsibilities/Judicious Use of Resources
Exercise fiscal responsibility in the utilization of all CASE resources.
Exhibit appropriate leadership toward and works cooperatively and supportively with all volunteer groups for which this position is responsible.
Support the Vice President Volunteer and Member Engagement to staff, as necessary, CASE Board of Trustees committees and commissions.
Liaises with CASE colleagues in other parts of the world to ensure the best sharing of ideas, expertise and knowledge.
Supervise staff who report directly to this position and hold direct reports responsible for the manner in which they perform their work. Oversee hiring, training, ongoing communication, and evaluations. Oversee contracting with and management of freelance support and vendors as needed.
Ensure that plans and programs are in place to advance CASE’s goals for inclusiveness. Demonstrate by example and communicate ways in which each CASE employee can enhance his or her awareness of the importance of inclusiveness to the organization.
Performs other Duties and Responsibilities as Assigned by Supervisor
Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree is required, advanced degree is preferred. Eight or more years’ experience working with senior-level volunteer groups, affinity groups, advisory committees or affiliate organizations. Experience developing and implementing member or customer engagement strategies. Experience planning meetings and targeted events for senior practitioners. Experience managing and motivating staff as well as working with colleagues across an organization to develop plans and deliver results. Experience in institutional advancement (alumni relations, communications, marketing, or fund raising) and a deep commitment to CASE and its mission strongly preferred. Some travel required.
Skills and Abilities: Proven track record of working with, managing and stewarding high-level volunteers and members. Exhibit superior customer service skills, the ability to interact effectively with a variety of constituents, and maturity and confidence to engender the respect and trust of colleagues, volunteers and members. Superior written and oral communication skills. Ability to establish, implement and evaluate program plans. Ability to analyze objective and subjective data to inform decisions and develop strategy.
