The Practice Resources department at APIC is seeking an Editorial Manager to develop, maintain, and update digital and print books for the benefit of our Infection Preventionist (IP) members and others in the infection prevention community.
The Editorial Manager will work under the direction of the Director, Practice Resources on APIC’s flagship database-style book, the APIC Text Online (ATO), other book projects, and will manage business operations including oversight of the product fulfillment/customer service vendor.
Essential functions include:
Develop work plans for ATO chapter updates and other book projects
Work with authors, editors, and peer reviewers during planning, manuscript, and revision phases of content projects
Post updates to and maintain the ATO via its content management system (CMS)
Edit, copyedit, and proofread content
Prepare manuscripts for the production process and interact with production vendors
Act as primary liaison with fulfillment/customer service vendor for all products
Prepare and distribute author agreements, conflict of interests statements, and honoraria payments
Manage onsite stores at APIC live events
The successful candidate will have a BA in journalism, communications, or a related field plus three to five years of publishing experience, and:
Association or nonprofit experience
Project management experience in publications
Health/medical/science subject knowledge
Experience with a peer-review publications environment
Excellent copyediting and proofreading skills
Knowledge of digital and print publishing processes
Good working knowledge of the Microsoft office suite
Experience with content management systems, iMIS (or other association management systems), and Google Analytics
Ability to meet deadlines
Attention to detail
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Tact and professionalism in dealing with member volunteer panel members, editors, authors, and reviewers
Ability to work with a team
Ability to lift 25 pounds from time to time
Willingness and ability to travel approximately 15% of the time
