The National Council of Structural Engineers Associations (NCSEA) mission statement is: NCSEA advances the practice of structural engineering by representing and strengthening its Member Organizations. To help fulfill this mission, NCSEA is seeking a Member Organization & Committee Services Director to support and strengthen its 44 state-level structural engineers association member organizations (MOs) and its nine national committees.
The MO & Committee Services Director will provide consistent day-to-day support to the MOs and committees (NCSEA’s customers), which are comprised mostly of volunteers. This support will include providing ideas and assistance with: facilitating their meetings, managing their conferences, marketing their memberships, improving communications, managing their databases and day-to-day operations, and/or generating education. The MO & Committee Services Director, along with the NCSEA Board of Directors and Executive Director, will serve as an association management expert to help these volunteer groups operate more effectively and interface with each other and NCSEA better.
The overall responsibilities of the MO & Committee Services Director include:
Serve as a day-to-day liaison for all MOs and all NCSEA Committees;
Monitor MO & Committee health and their relationship with NCSEA;
Support and develop a constant flow of communication, information and resources among the MOs, NCSEA, MO Committees and NCSEA Committees;
Assist in the development of new tools, resources and business practices to help MOs more effectively run their volunteer SEA and broaden NCSEA’s services to MOs;
Develop, realign and maintain NCSEA’s AMS system as an organization and member tool.
Work in tandem with the Board of Directors and Executive Director to make customer visits to the MOs to provide face-to-face assistance;
Perform the annual dues and membership roster drive;
Develop enhanced membership benefits for individual and corporate members.
For the first 4-5 months in the position, the MO & Committee Services Director will:
Reach out to all MOs that haven’t been met with in the last year to determine where they need help;
Review all existing requests from MOs and facilitate action on those requests;
Determine the state of all NCSEA Committees and develop a plan of action to increase communication and interaction;
Help prepare for the annual Summit and develop an action plan for after Summit follow-up with the delegate and MO leadership;
Team with the NCSEA Office Manager to evaluate the AMS and the customers’ experience with the members-only website to improve the user experience;
Establish a plan to grow corporate memberships.
The ideal past experience for this MO & Committee Services Director is as an association membership director that supported and worked with regional groups (such as chapters). The ideal skill set for this position would include strong communications skills, experience with AMS systems, public speaking ability, past experience developing PR/marketing programs for outreach, and the ability to motivate, support and guide volunteer leadership.
NCSEA has 44 Member Organizations that represent more than 10,000 structural engineers across the U.S. The downtown Chicago-based NCSEA office is comprised of 6 full-time staff.
